Merry Christmas

Coach Blog December 26

Merry Christmas to one and all. It’s a strange time of year for Lani and I as we spend Christmas away from our families. Christmas is a big family event in Australia and this is our second Christmas in Japan. However, we wish everybody in our Lakestars family a very Merry Christmas.

Last week we went 1 and 2 and really should have won all 3 games. While it is disappointing to not come home from our road trip winning every game it is important to keep things in prospective as part of our learning curve. We can take a lot from the 2 losses and move forward as a team and be better in future games.

This week Yokohama roll into town. They have been playing much better of late and could probably consider themselves unlucky not to have won a few more games. Championship coach Tom Wisman has come on board as a consultant and I can definitely see the difference in their play. They are playing far more aggressive defence which is a trademark of all teams that Coach Wisman is involved with. They are also using a zone defence to great effect. The zone allows them to pressure the ball and they have a great anchor in the middle to change and intimidate shots in Hasheem Thabeet.

The big challenge for us is our consistency of play. We have shown at times that we can be very good and we look great but then we can be just as bad. The main thing is for the team to keep working on the processes and keep faith in the themselves and the systems because we have shown how we are when we get it right. Yokohama like Osaka last week will use some changing defences to try and disrupt us and it is important that we stay focused and positive in our attack but really lock in on the defensive end.

With the New Year almost upon us I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody the best for the coming year and may it be a prosperous one for all of our fans.

See you all at the game

With energy
