Happy New Year to everybody. The start of a new year always brings excitement and optimism. This year is no different and we welcome 2 new players to our group. Venky Jois will replace Omar Samhan in one of the import spots and Takuma Sato joins us after a successful college career.

皆さん、明けましておめでとうございます。新たな年の始まりはいつも期待に胸が膨らみ前向きな気持ちになるものです。今年も同様に期待する中でチームに新たに二人の選手を迎えました。ベンキー・ジョイスはオマール・サムハンと入れ替わり外国籍選手枠の1角を担います。佐藤卓磨は大学での素晴らしいキャリアを終え、チームに加わりました。

Venky will bring us some much-needed athleticism in the front court and I know he will excite fans with his play around the rim. He will also help us increase our full court defensive pressure. Sato is a young player with a great future ahead. He will take some time like most young players to adjust to the professional game but I am excited about what he will bring to the team. His size will help us with our rebounding and as he adjusts to a more perimeter game he will become a valuable asset to the team

ベンキーは我々に欠けていた身体能力を生かしたプレーでオフェンスを牽引してくれるでしょう。リング周辺でファンの皆さんの驚くようなプレーを見せてくれるはずです。また彼は我々のフルコートでのディフェンス・プレッシャーを高める手助けとなってくれるはずです。佐藤は将来有望な若手選手です。彼も多くの新人選手と同様にプロの駆け引きに慣れて行くのに時間がかかるかと思いますが、私は彼がこのチームにもたらしてくれる資質に期待をしています。彼の高さはリバウンドで力になりますし、アウトサイドの動きができるようになってくればチームにとって貴重な存在になるはずです。

Looking ahead we have a fantastic situation that will be a very good test with games on the road against defending Champions Tochigi and then the following week against Tokyo. Tochigi has started to play much better of late and we will need to improve our offensive execution and take better care of the basketball. Playing in Utsunomiya is always tough with their passionate fans providing an outstanding atmosphere for the home team. Tokyo have been having a very consistent year and will be tough. They play very aggressive defence and force you play long periods of defence as they have great patience on offence. As a coach, I love these challenges as it allows you to really know how we have improved and where we need to keep improving.

今週は昨季の優勝チームである栃木、そして翌週は東京を相手にアウェイでの戦いが続きますが、我々にとってとても良い試練となるでしょう。ここに来て栃木は調子を上げて来ていますし、我々としてはオフェンスの遂行力を高め、ボールをより大切に扱うことができるようにならなければいけません。アウェイチームにとって宇都宮でプレーするの常に大変なことです。栃木のファンは試合会場に見事な雰囲気を作りホームチームを応援します。東京はとても安定感のあるシーズンを送っており、こちらもタフな試合になるでしょう。彼らはとてもアグレッシブなディフェンスをします。また、オフェンスでは忍耐強くプレーすることで相手チームに長い間ディフェンスすることを強いてきます。コーチとしてこの様な挑戦を歓迎しますし、これを通してチームがどれだけ向上できたか、またどこを向上し続ける必要があるか判断することができます。

The season is a very long one so it was nice to be able to give the team a bit of a break from training over the New Year. Coming back to training last week there was a real spring in the step of everybody as we got back to work. Being refreshed will help our performance and I know as a team we very excited to be getting back to playing games this week. With the addition of Venky we will be extending our defence up the court to create a faster paced game which is when we are playing our best basketball. We lost some close games of late but overall there are times when we play some outstanding basketball. Developing some consistency will help us win these close games.

シーズンはとても長いのでチームに正月の休暇を与えられたのは良かったです。先週練習を再開し、戻ってきた選手全員にバネのある動きが見られました。リフレッシュしたことでパフォーマンスも上がり、チームとして今週よりまた試合をして行くことにとても興奮しています。ベンキーの加入により我々はディフェンスの範囲を広げ、より速いテンポの試合を展開していきます。それができている時は、我々にとって最高のバスケができている時です。このところ接戦をいくつか落としていますが、その中でも素晴らしいバスケができていた時間帯がいくつもありました。これをいつでもできる安定感を培うことで、こういった接戦で勝てる様になるはずです。
